The God of War presents himself as a mean, no funny business gym teacher, and lucky you, you're right in the middle of his class. Since the Arena of War is lost to the Time Fog, you're stuck doing drills at Avenger's Stadium. Expect to be put through sword fighting, take off and landing, shield practice, and of course the more mundane running laps and doing push ups. Magic is only to be used for shield practice, and anyone causing mischief will have to deal with Ares himself.

Doesn't mean you can't try, it just means it won't end well for you.

Avengers Assemble!

Octobots are attacking a lab space in downtown. Their target: a new chemical compound that is apparently more efficient in powering the wriggly bastards. Get to your assigned teams and get out there before they can make off with that compound, or the octopi will be having the city for dinner tonight!

And Director Fury doesn't give a damn if you don't like your teammates; work it out or don't, just get the job done.

Class is in session, and considering it's Professor Pym's class, it's probably going to blow up in a few minutes. It might be best to make sure your homework is finished and handed in before your lab mate goes for the chemical cabinet, because there's a high chance it'll be on fire otherwise. While your at it, be careful what you touch in the lab; you might end up having an electrifying experience.

...this lab has no safety precautions whatsoever, does it?

Sucks to be you; looks like you just got caught getting into things you shouldn't have been getting into, and the All Father himself found out about it. Now you're stuck in detention in the Timeless Archives, whittling away at a report that no superhero deserves to be put through. It doesn't look like Odin stuck around to make sure you finish it, though; is it worth risking the All Father's ire just to get a few hours on the dance floor at Club A?

Class E is many things, but none of them are anywhere near "boring". I guess it's never boring here, either?

[He'd expect a school full of kids with superpowers to be nothing short of absolute chaos. It's actually been pretty tame so far, though...]

Two words: science class. [A beat.] I'd suggest trying to get your hands on fireproof folders. Or to make several copies of your homework.

... Ah, and there's also when we actually have to deal with trouble. There hasn't been any major disasters for a while, so I'm guessing we're gonna be due for one in the next week or two.

[Hibiki says the word science and already Nagisa knows it will be bad. Okay. Fire. He can plan for fire and work around it. Trouble and disasters are a little more vague.]

Can you tell me about what kinds of things we might be facing? [He pulls out his notepad. Looks like observing and keeping notes will be the name of the game again.]

I can't give you too many specifics since I haven't been here long, but-- Ah, hang on. [He stops tipping his chair back to dig in his bag before pulling out his phone. He fiddles with it a little before finally flipping it around to show Nagisa.

It's a photo of some of the adversaries from the last incident, each one with some notes detailing their abilities and weaknesses. The notes aren't particularly detailed, but really, it's not like Hibiki's going to be looking much at his phone in a fight anyway.] This is what we went up against last time, and I've heard whispers of robots from some of the students that've been here longer.

[Nagisa's pencil flies across his page...it seems like he's doing more writing than just copying down the data on the phone. Hm.]

Robots? That sounds cool. [In a general sense. But what can he do against robots? He doesn't have Itona's knack for technology, and he won't distract Ritsu from her primary mission....but he's best against people.]

Right? Can you just imagine how tricky those would be to fight? Especially if they were like, I dunno, huge. ... I mean, unless you've got powers or something. I keep forgetting superpowers are a thing half the time.

No, no powers here... I'm just kind of good at studying. Robots, though... Maybe if they're big enough we could get inside somehow and sabotage from within? There was something like that in a movie.

Heyyy, non-powered solidarity! [Hibiki's holding up a hand for a high-five--regardless of whether or not Nagisa gives him one, he continues.] Provided we could get in, yeah! Or if you're a traceur like me, we could probably trick them into hitting each other. ... If they're big and kind of slow, at least.

[He fives the high, though it's not an especially enthusiastic one. More of a casual, habitual motion.

Traceur...?] I'm an... I do best against human opponents. Anti-personnel.

--Oh! Traceur's just a fancy term for a practitioner of parkour. Or, uh, someone who does freerunning, if that's the term you're used to.

Anti-personnel, huh... duly noted. My area of expertise for fighting is like... big, presumably organic things. [Uh--]

Oh! I can do that, at least a little. I'm still learning intermediate moves, but I have the fundamentals.

[Big and questionably organic, huh? That...vaguely describes someone he could name.] I think I understand. [Wait, he does?]

Want me to teach you some of the intermediate stuff? I've got quite a bit of experience under my belt.

Hah, really? Although, uh, I'm talking 'probably about the size of a city block' big...

That would be great! My class only just got started, this way I won't fall behind the others.

Alright, I wasn't thinking that big...but how much power does this hypothetical enemy have? [Hypothetical. Purely imaginary. Totally.]

Varied between individuals. Could take out a city block at weakest, one of the stronger ones could drop fatal neurotoxins. The strongest could probably blow a chunk out of a planet if it used all its power.

Not that it was allowed to live long enough to find out... [... Ah, this was supposed to be hypothetical...]

[He could probably deal with that, depending how fast they are... He'd need to observe them.]

Sounds rough. You're kind of an amazing person, aren't you?

[Cosmic horrors are weird, man. Faceless, no tell-tale signals comparable to anything on earth...]

Oh, well... I wouldn't really say I'm amazing on my own? After all, I'm just one of twelve! It's incredible how much you can accomplish when working together, you know?

[So give him a couple hours. He'd figure something out.]

Cooperation is a key skill in most fields. That wouldn't stop the individual from being amazing.

Anyone could probably get to where I am with the right training and studying... I've never really thought of myself as amazing, honestly.

[He says, as if being Yamato's favorite didn't account for much--]

Didn't you say you were your boss's favorite? You must have done something to deserve that.

[The situation is different from Nagisa's. Everyone in his class received the same education and training, and a few of them stand out, like Karma and Okuda... Nagisa knows where he belongs, though. Support and sidelines - and that's fine.]

I also said 'for some reason'. I'm still not sure why, honestly... I was a little better at reading him than the rest of my unit, but that's not really saying much...

You also successfully fought things that big with only twelve people. If you're the lead strategist, that gives you more of the credit.

[Putting the pieces together this way, it's obvious why the older teen belongs here even without powers. Incredible people are everywhere here, huh?

...Hopefully none of them are too kiss-happy.]

Well, I guess when you put it that way... [He's still personally of the opinion that the others are more impressive than he is, but.]
